The Best Halloween Goodies:

  • Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts are a totally fun sweet treat to make for breakfast in the fall season. These Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts are so darn cute and delicious. You can make them pumpkin-shaped, like you see in the photos. Or you can cut them into rectangular-shapes to make more traditional-looking pop tarts. They’re super easy to make. It’s like having a taste of pumpkin pie for breakfast!
  • I’ve always loved this Turkey Pumpkin Chili recipe.  It’s a good-for-you kind of chili. I promise that your chili won’t taste like a weird pumpkin concoction. Pumpkin is used in plenty of savory recipes, and in the case of this chili… it provides great texture and it’s good for you too. Don’t leave it out! In fact, I highly recommend serving this turkey pumpkin chili with my pumpkin cornbread. They are a great combination!
  • Pumpkin Spice Dip is the ultimate easy dessert recipe. If you’re not a baker, or if you’re just super busy and need something easy, this is the dessert recipe for you to try.  It involves using a hand mixer to blend a few ingredients together.  That’s it. This sweet pumpkin spice dip is so delicious that you’re going to want to sit next to it and eat it with a spoon. But that’ll probably be looked down upon! So serve with store-bought gingersnaps and/or apple slices for dunking.  It’s that easy!
  • Apple Cider Sangria is the perfect way to enjoy sangria on a crisp Fall night! You’re not going to believe how amazing this Apple Cider Sangria tastes! Make sure you make a large enough pitcher because this stuff will be gone in a flash!  In fact, doubling the recipe is an even better idea because everyone will ask for more.

fun shopping finds

Fun Shopping Finds:

  • My big purchase this week was this cute fleece jacket (on sale!). It’s super cozy. I got the “beet” color.
  • I bought this cozy cardigan in white last year. The color they’re featuring this year is pretty!
  • My friend Maria is selling these adorable sweatshirts for cookie lovers. You can order between now and October 30th for delivery at the end of November.
  • This red dress is calling out to me! It would be so lovely for the holidays.
  • I have my eye on these snow/winter boots for a trip to Park City that we have planned later this year!

streaming reading

What I’m watching and reading:

  • I watched and enjoyed The Greatest Beer Run Ever on Apple TV+ (a little silly, but good). We’re also in the middle of watching The Patient on Hulu (with Steve Carell). It’s about a psychologist who has a patient who is a serial killer. It’s really good (but slightly disturbing if you can’t handle that kind of stuff)!
  • Do you have the Libby app?  It’s the app you can download if you have a library card, and you can check out digital books and audiobooks for free! I just started listening to The Secret History by Donna Tartt. This is one of my favorite books from a long, long time ago, so I’m happy to read it again!
    Must Make Recipes

Fun Recipes I’ve spotted on the internet this week:

personal updates

Here’s what’s going on in my life:

  • Fall has finally arrived! We went from wearing shorts one day to sweaters, puffy jackets and boots the next. I love the crisp, cool air, and I’m excited for some weather too. We have quite a bit of rain/snow on the way.
  • Before the cold weather came in, I went on a 9 mile hike on the Deschutes River Trail to Dillon Falls with a couple of friends. That’s a long distance for me, so I felt pretty good about that one!
  • About every 8 weeks, I send a care package to my son in college. The next one is just about to go out. It’ll have a couple loaves of my pumpkin bread and a batch of snickerdoodle cookies in it too.

Food News

Catch up on food-related news of the week:

  • New cookbook releases: I got two new cookbooks in the mail this week.  Cooking with Kids by Brianne Grajkowski is a super simple style cookbook featuring kid friendly recipes. The font is large, and the directions are listed very basic. It’s a good first cookbook for little ones who know how to read and are interested in cooking! 50 Things to Bake Before You Die by Allyson Reedy is a collection of dessert recipes from well-known bakers and chefs, restaurant owners, TV personalities and more. There are some good recipes in this one! This was released back in April, but the publisher just sent it to me.
  • Whole Foods released their predictions for the Top 10 Food Trends in 2023. Interesting!
  • Wendy’s has launched a $3 breakfast deal for fall.
  • Butter boards are all the rage, even though there is talk of a butter shortage,

Products I'm Loving

Products I’m loving:

  • How fun would it be to have a beauty advent calendar this holiday season?
  • It would be super cute to have an advent calendar for your dog too (treats!)
  • This is my favorite fragrance. I get a large bottle to keep at home and a mini spray bottle to take on trips.
  • My sister bought me a personal safety alarm so I can feel good about walking the dog early in the AM when there are coyotes and other creatures lurking about. I’m thinking it would be a good stocking stuffer for the women in your life!
  • Look for Maple and Sea Salt Kettle Corn at Trader Joe’s. It’s so delicious that I almost at the whole bag in one sitting!
  • I’ve ordered two wreaths from this very talented wreath crafter on Etsy. She’s located in Canada, but both wreaths were shipped very quickly to me and in perfect condition. They are lovely! I know wreaths are expensive, but my feeling is that you have them forever so it’s an investment worth making.
  • Look for Hershey’s Cinnamon Chips at Walmart (in the baking aisle). They don’t always carry them (and they are super hard to find!) I picked up a couple bags the other day to add to cookies, breads and scones! They freeze well too.
