Cinnamon Roll Protein Smoothie

admin

This delicious cinnamon roll protein shake is the perfect on-the-go breakfast for fixing your cinnamon roll cravings – in less than 2 minutes!

WHAT’S A CINNAMON ROLL PROTEIN SMOOTHIE?

This protein shake is a great option as a healthy post-workout breakfast to refresh, rehydrate and feed your muscles with slow-release carbs, healthy fats and filling proteins.

Additionally, this cinnamon roll flavored protein shake is like having dessert for breakfast – little would you know, its filled with nutritious ingredients!

WHAT GOES INTO A CINNAMON ROLL PROTEIN SHAKE?

  • Vanilla protein powder – choose any brand you love. I used a whey protein powder in this recipe. Alternatively, you can use a plant-based protein powder to make this recipe vegan instead. Feel free to experiment with other flavored protein powders, such as peanut butter flavored.
  • Frozen banana – don’t add too much banana, or it will taste more like a banana shake. However, frozen banana is great to add a smooth, creamy texture. You can sub banana for other fruit or even cauliflower to add some hidden veggies, but I think the flavor of the banana pairs best with the other flavors of this smoothie recipe.
  • Unsweetened vanilla almond milk – you can also use dairy milk if you are not interested in a vegan smoothie. Other vegan options include oat milk or coconut milk, but I prefer the light flavor of the almond milk, as it doesn’t alter the flavor of your smoothie too much.
  • Almond butter – this is the magic ingredient that gives this protein shake a cinnamon roll flavor! You can use other nut butters as well, such as cashew or sunflower butter. Additionally, I have tried using PBFit peanut butter powder for a lower calorie, low fat alternative and enjoyed it just the same!
  • Ground cinnamon – feel free to add more than the measurement based on personal preference and taste.
  • Greek Yogurt – the addition of a little bit of plain Greek yogurt adds to the protein content of this smoothie, as well as adding on to the creamy texture. You can sub coconut yogurt for a vegan, dairy-free alternative as well.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (I used vanilla ice cream flavor by Optimal Nutrition)
  • 2 tbsp plain greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp PBFit powder or almond butter
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

DIRECTIONS

Simply blend all ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth and creamy. Enjoy with a sprinkle of cinnamon or other toppings of choice!
