Vegan Blue Cheese Dressing

Why you’ll love this vegan blue cheese dressing

  • I’ve tried quite a few dairy free blue cheese dressings, and I haven’t found one I liked, but when we tried the new Follow Your Heart blue cheese crumbles, I knew they would make a delicious dressing.
  • This blue cheese dressing is just so easy to make with just a few simple ingredients. It’s just a matter of tossing a few ingredients into a bowl and mixing.
  • You can blending it smooth if you don’t like the pieces of blue cheese, but I think it adds a more authentic feel, especially if you’re using it as a dip.

Ingredients & Substitutions

Making changes to a recipe can result in recipe failure. Any substitutions listed below are simple changes that I believe will work in this recipe, but results are not guaranteed.

  • Vegan blue cheese – Follow Your Heart makes the best vegan blue cheese and it comes already crumbled, but if you can’t find it at your local store, you can make homemade vegan blue cheese instead.
  • Dairy free milk – We used almond for this recipe because it’s what we had on hand, but any unsweetened milk will work. Use what’s best for your dietary needs.
  • Vegan mayonnaise – This is a must have for this recipe, but if you are just wanting to make dairy free dressing, feel free to use regular mayo. See also: are eggs dairy?
  • Soy sauce – This just adds a little extra umami to the dressing. You can skip it if you don’t have it, and if you need to make this gluten free, swap it for tamari sauce or coconut aminos.
  • Parsley – I like to use fresh parsley for this recipe. It’s easy to get, and adds so a nice color to the dressing. If you only have dried parsley, use 1 teaspoon.

How to make vegan blue cheese dressing

Mix the dressing. Combine all the ingredients (except the blue cheese) in a mixing bowl and whisk them together until smooth.

Add the cheese. Then, add the blue cheese to the dressing and use a fork to break up any larger chunks until you reach your desired consistency.

Store for later. Transfer the dressing to a mason jar or other storage container and refrigerate until you’re ready to use it. This dressing should keep for up to 1 week in the fridge.

What is a good substitute for blue cheese in a salad?

The best substitute for blue cheese in a salad is definitely a similar cheese such as gorgonzola, but since we don’t eat dairy, I like to use vegan blue cheese or vegan feta. If you’d rather not use a vegan cheese, I would recommend a roasted, salted nut or something briny, such as capers or olives.
